FAO and DOA organize a Regional Pesticide Registration Toolkit Workshop Bangkok, Thailand 6-10 August 2018

Regional workshop on the application of the FAO Pesticide Registration Toolkit was held in Bangkok, Thailand, August 6-10, 2018. Around twenty-five pesticide regulators from Cambodia, Lao PDR and Thailand participated in the workshop hosted by the Department of Agriculture of the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives of the Royal Thai Government. This workshop helped strengthen pesticide regulatory management capacity in all three Greater Mekong Subregion countries and enhance regional collaboration between pesticide regulatory authorities. Participants explored the toolkit, shared experiences and expanded their knowledge on pesticide registration. Included in this training curriculum a learning module on Highly Hazardous Pesticides (HHPs) with a focus on capacity building for HHP identification, assessment and development of risk mitigation action plans. The workshop was organized under the framework of the regional programme “Towards a non-toxic South-East Asia” (FAO Trust Fund project GCP/RAS/229/SWE), funded by the Government of Sweden.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has developed a Pesticide Registration Toolkit to support pesticide regulators in countries with limited resources. The Toolkit can be used as a source of information and a reference tool for pesticide registration authorities. It also provides assistance on the process of evaluating pesticide registration dossiers and support for sound decision-making.
