SRI-LMB Project Holds CFPAR Field Day Kampong Speu, Cambodia, 28 November 2014

A total of about 106 participants (mostly rice farmers including 28 women) attended the Central Farmers' Participatory Action Research (CFPAR) Field Day held on 28 November 2014 in Kampong Speu, Cambodia. The attendees represented the General Directorate of Agriculture, Provincial Departments of Agriculture (Takeo, Kampong Speu and Kampot provinces), the Royal University of Agriculture (RUA), Oxfam and local partner civil society organizations (CSOs), FAO and the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) as well as Farmer Trainers and the SRI-LMB Project Management Unit (PMU).

The event was organized to highlight results of the season-long (CFPAR) Training of Trainers and bring together participants and guests to evaluate the results of the field experiments. Farmer Trainers presented the results of eight experiments (i.e., transplanting methods, sowing methods, number of seedlings per hill, spacing, kinds of fertilizer, seedling age, weed management, varietal comparison).

Experience and knowledge gained from the season-long training and the culminating Field Day will be used to strengthen existing and planned activities on farmer experimentation on innovative practices under the System of Rice Intensification and improved farm and crop management practices under the EU-funded FAO-AIT SRI-LMB Project.
