IPM Training Partners

The University of California, Davis (UC-Davis)  in California, USA, provides leadership for international discovery, learning and engagement especially as to address emerging socio-political, economic, science and educational agenda. UC Davis promotes and supports research by faculty and graduate students on scientific and international issues in collaboration with counterparts in other countries around the globe through grants. Work with FAO focuses on participatory action research and farmer training on safe vegetable production in Vietnam and Cambodia and developing the Horticulture Action Research and Education (HARE)-Network to enhance farmer income, health and the local environment.
The Pesticide Action Network – Asia Pacific (PAN-AP) based in Penang, Malaysia, is one of the five regional centers of PAN International – a global coalition of citizens’ groups and individuals, who are working to promote sustainable agriculture, and oppose the use of pesticides. PAN-AP is dedicated to ensuring the empowerment of people, especially women, agricultural workers, farmers and peasants. PAN-AP is especially committed to protect the safety and health of people, and the environment from pesticide use.
The Center for Gender, Family and Environment Development (CGFED), a local NGO based in Hanoi, Vietnam is a champion for women’s development and gender equity. In the area of environment protection, CGFED highlights environmental impacts on women’s health and life and the role of women in securing safe agriculture, safe working conditions and climate change adaptation.
The Center for Rural Progress (CRP) is a Vietnamese NGO dedicated to rural development. It works closely with provincial Departments of Agriculture and Rural Development and encourages grassroots initiatives and individual, group and community participation at all project-cycle stages. CRP has been involved with FAO’s work in improving environmental education, IPM and biodiversity issues related to pesticide use.
The Agriculture Technology Services Association (ATSA) is a local NGO based in Phnom Penh, Cambodia and works with local IPM networks to provide high quality services to strengthen farmers’ capabilities to generate, access and use information to make better decisions in their fields as to improve production. ATSA also assists communities create linkages and access markets. The processes used in developing IPM farmers’ groups have empowered farmers to influence local level decision-making and policies and participate more actively in addressing civil society concerns such as pesticide use affecting their communities.
The Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) is an inter-governmental research organization, based in Bangkok, Thailand.  It promotes technological change and sustainable development in the Asia-Pacific region through higher education, research and outreach. It partners with FAO to strengthen farmer training especially along IPM and the System of Rice Intensification (SRI). Visit www.ait.asia
The Sustainable Agriculture and Environment Development Association  (SAEDA) a local NGO based in Lao PDR works to support vulnerable communities by introducing and promoting sustainable agriculture practices, and improving their capacity and awareness to safeguard the environment and natural resources. In its partnership with FAO, SAEDA focuses its interventions along sustainable agriculture techniques and tools, chemical impact research and advocacy and biodiversity conservation and study.
Pesticide Eco-Alternatives Center (PEAC) promotes alternative ecological forms of pest management to reduce production, sales, use and threats of chemical pesticides in China, to protect human health and the environment for sustainable development.
The Cambodian Center for Study and Development in Agriculture (CEDAC) is involved in sustainable agriculture and rural development. CEDAC carries out agriculture research and farmer training and extension programmes.
The Integrated Plant Protection Center (IPPC) at Oregon State University (OSU) works with state, regional as well as international partners to do research and outreach on economically sustainable pest management, particularly on practices that bring about lower costs to human health and the environment.
Srer Khmer is an independent, non-profit organization dedicated to the development of farmer-led environmentally sound agriculture. Srer Khmer complements government and NGO initiatives in community-based IPM and facilitates IPM training by farmers.
The School of Public Health and Community Medicine, University of Washington based in Seattle supports innovative research into information strategies and technologies to improve the health of the public. It is involved in development of the tracer technology that is used for training farmers on how to reduce pesticide risks.
